I will send you a framed and signed picture of all four Monkees, a signed first edition of Micky's book "I'm A Believer, my life of Monkees, Music and Madness", a DVD of the 1997 reunion of all four in England, my fictional book of the Monkees "Last Train to Murder" and a 1960's comic book of the Monkees. The signed photo I bought from an autograph dealer. At that time it was only signed by Micky, Peter and Mike and came with a certificate of authenticy. Davy signed it for me in person after a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. The book that was signed by Micky was gotten for me by afriend and given to me as a Christmas gift years ago. It pains me to have to sell them but I need the money more. Above you see the cover to the DVD set WKRP in Cincinnati the Complete First Season. My question is when will the complete second season be available? Anyone know? I mean if Night court can be up to season 4 then WKRP, which is a funnier show, should be up to at least season 2. Don't get me wrong Night Court was funny but WKRP was and is funnier. It was also a cleaner show. Herb wasn't a raunchy as Dan on Night Court.

I just heard that Jim Harmon, the writer/editor of the "It's That Time Again" series of short stories dealing with characters from old time radio, has passed away. Mr. Harmon was the first person to buy a story of mine and published it in that series. He exchanged some e-mails with me and he seemed like a very kind man. I even learned a few literary devices from him. His last e-mail was to congratulate me on on the release of my book "Dinky the Elf" but how he may not be able to get a copy. Now I wish I had sent him a copy. Mr. Harmon was a huge fan of OTR, movies, comic books and more. He tried to encourge all writers and he will be missed.

For years I have heard that WKRP was the television version of the movie FM. I have never seen the film but after seeing this trailer it is easy to see how one would get that impression. If it is true I guess Martin Mull had the Dr. Johnny Fever part and Cleavon Little was Venus. Maybe I'll catch it on TV sometime.

Here is the second cover from local Cincinnati TV guide covers when the first WKRP series aired. This one features Ohio native Gary Sandy who was Andy Travis on the show. This cover is from the Cincinnati Post newspaper magazine called TV Plus. It is dated July 1980. Along with the cover I have included the back cover where the story is the sorry state of summer television at that time. Cable TV was still in its infancy so there were only 3 networks. That would soon change. Most of the time the networks didn't put new programs on in the summer. If you click on the article and read it you can feel the disgust that the writer has for how the networks handle summer TV. Yes I know most people are outside being active in the summer but when you come in you need something to watch.

I had no problem with that as I thought they would be very low rated shows that I didn't watch. Now I find out that one of my favorites, Chuck, is on that list. Over at Film.com the Theme song for WKRP in Cincinnati is rated as one of the best in TV history. However, the video they use is from the syndicated version of the new WKRP in Cincinnati with a re-mix of the theme. That version was inferior to the original version. Still it is an honor for the show to be ranked as one of the best.

I was looking for the Christmas episode where Mr. Carlson was Scrooge but couldn't find it. I love it when TV shows do their version of A Christmas Carol or It's A Wonderful Life. I did find this Christmas episode that I forgot and it is a wonderful little gem of a Christmas present. In the first few minutes Les gives his trademark line of how he is flying non-stop from Cincinnati to Dayton. It makes me smile to think that he could get their faster if he drove there.

Every once in awhile I see these promos for the show but usually they are for cities other then Cincinnati. In this case they got local Cincinnati weatherman Pat Berry to advertise the show in...Chicago? Living in the Cincinnati, Ohio viewing area it seems to me that after the show left the network airwaves WKRP was treated badly. I don't recall it ever being shown in reruns on the local stations. Even when the syndicated New WKRP aired they didn't give it a prime spot like 7pm. No that went to game shows. The New WKRP in Cincinnati was shown at MIDNIGHT!!! Since the 1970's WKRP has rarely been seen in Cincinnati. Yet when one of the stars from the show make an appearance in the area they publicize it a lot and treat them like royalty. Go Figure!
Even when the now out of print book, America's Favorite Radio Station: WKRP in Cincinnati by Michael B. Kassel, was published I couldn't find it in local bookstores. I had to go to the internet and have it mailed to me. This show was one of the best promotions this area of the country ever had and it is being treated poorly by us. Shame on you Cincinnati.

About 9 years after the network series was canceled they produced "The New WKRP in Cincinnati." Only Mr. Carlson, Herb and Les came back from the original series. Others from the first series did make guest appearances. In this episode Venus came back as a big business executive.

At last WKRP in Cincinnati is real. The low powered TV station WBQC changed their call letters to get nationwide recognition. Sad to say they aren't showing reruns of the old TV series as for some reason those aren't available right now for broadcast. It seems a bit odd that it is a TV station and not a radio station that did this but I will take anything that gets one of my favorite shows attention.
